It's been a cool October so far, but this weekend is on fire! There are so many exciting options jam-packed into this one little weekend, you might have a hard time choosing!

It's Friday, and you have no clue what's going on this weekend. Patch is coming to the rescue. We've got two words: Bed-Stuy Alive!!!! (or is that three words?)

This weekend is electric, without a doubt-- so much so, instead of our usual five listings, we've included six. And there's something in there for everyone of all interests, backgrounds and ages:

We've got pop-up stores with celebrity appearances, nightime bazaars, poetry readings, late-night parties with NYC's HOTTEST DJ's and let's not forget Bed-Stuy Alive!!! a full weekend of events celebrating the cultural renaissance of our great neighborhood!

WHAT: BAM's Late-Night Dance Party, featuring DJs Idlemind, Kervyn Mark and Kamala Jefferson

WHEN/WHERE: Friday, October 7, and Saturday, October 8, from 11:00pm – 3:30am, BAMcafe, 30 Lafayette Avenue

WHY GO: On Friday, October 7, BAM’s own DJ Idlemind “The Appropriate Agent”—master of the live remix and a former resident of Club Zimbabwe, La Linea and the Legendary Tunnel—leads a late-night dance party in BAMcafé. And on Saturday, October 8, veteran DJs Kervyn Mark and Kamala Jefferson—members of the tour-de-force underground dance collective Melting Pot Global—host a late-night dance party in BAMcafé. Stay up late and expect eclectic beats, live remixes, and party anthems from all genres with BAMcafé Live’s house DJ.

WHAT:  Brooklyn… The Revival 2011

WHEN/WHERE: Friday, October 7, from 7:00pm – 10:00pm, 77 Halsey Street

WHY GO: Light fare, cash bar, music and more, the Revival is an intimate poetry set, featuring the poet Solrose and t’ai freedom ford. With dynamic performances from poets and musicians alike, The Revival weaves a salon styled night of performance, libations and genuine fellowship.  Sexy, vibrant, and diverse! This year's troupe travels to DC, Philly, Brooklyn and Chicago connecting women, creators and changemakers.

HOW MUCH: $15 online or $20 at the door

 

WHAT: Brooklyn Night Bazaar @ Dekalb Market

WHEN/WHERE: Sunday, October 9, 5:00pm to Midnight

WHY GO: The inspiration for the event comes from the night markets across Asia. On this night we will be showcasing local artists, vendors and musicians from Brooklyn and beyond. Here’s what you can expect to experience:

  • Live music with YACHTMonogold, Trouble Andrew, and DJ Sets
  • More than 50 independent merchant and food vendors
  • Beer & wine garden featuring local breweries courtesy Sixpoint, Great Brewers and Brooklyn Winery
  • Light and sculpture installation by Jason Krugman
  • Games like Petanque and more!

WHAT: OUR FOLKLORE Presents “Nou Renmen Ayiti” (We Love Haiti)

WHEN/WHERE: Saturday, October 8, from 1:00pm – 5:00pm, at the Brooklyn Pubic Library’s Macon Branch, 361 Lewis Avenue.

WHY GO: Nou Renmen Ayiti will celebrate Haiti’s accomplishments. OUR FOLKLORE is a children’s cultural arts and literacy organization dedicated to preserving the many folkoric art forms of Africa and the Caribbean. The event will include: 1:30pm, a storytelling performance; 2:00pm a picture slide lecture; 2:30pm, Rara dance and music; 3:30pm, costume design; 4:00pm, costume display and 4:20pm Rara continues. WHAT: Spike Lee’s One-Day Pop-Up Store

WHEN/WHERE: Saturday, October 8, 12:00pm – 6:00pm, at 40 Acres and a Mule Filmworks, 75 S. Elliott Pl. at Lafayette

WHY GO: Spike Lee’s joint — film studio 40 Acres and a Mule in Fort Greene — will play host to a pop-up shop this Saturday, Oct. 8, and Lee promises to make an appearance.

WHAT: The 7th Annual Bed-Stuy Alive! A celebration of Bed-Stuy’s vibrant history, culture and commerce!!!

WHEN/WHERE: October 8th- 16th 2011

10:00 AM: Street fair Kick-off; with community performances and awards
12:00 PM: 5th Annual Restoration Rocks! Concert: Rock to free live sets by some of Brooklyn’s hippest bands (Fulton Street between New York and Brooklyn Avenues).
SUNDAY, OCTOBER 9, 2011
10:00 AM: Restoration 10K Run & Fun Walk: by many considered the warm-up to the NYC Marathon (registration at 08:00 AM); more information route etc. will follow.
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 15
10:00 AM - 05:00 PM: 8th Annual Studio Strut: visit local artists at their studios (for more info: www.besaa.org)
09:00 AM - 05:00 PM: 33rd Annual House Tour of Bedford-Stuyvesant: visit Bed-Stuys beautiful brownstones (for more info and tickets: www.brownstonersofbedstuy.org)
