WHEN/WHERE: Friday, February 10, 8:00 p.m., Brooklyn Botanic Gardens, 1000 Washington Avenue

WHY GO: LUSH is an evening of local Latin-inspired cuisine, music, and revelry. Hosted by Brooklyn Botanic Garden, there will be an exclusive viewing of their coveted tropical orchids nursery - BBG is home to over 6,000 orchids! Barcelona-born and New York–based DJ Turmix launches the night spinning Latin rhythms before Spanglish Fly—one of only two boogaloo bands in the nation—rips through a set of the late 1960s dance music that took East Harlem by storm (the band will also offer a dance lesson for boogaloo newbies). Then, WFMU’s Mr. Fine Wine will continue the party with his collection of original 45s. BBG curator Dave Horak will bring guests behind the scenes of BBG’s orchid collection, introducing some of the world’s most remarkable specimens in BBG’s care. An open bar of fragrant juices and cocktails, as well as vibrant nibbles by Brooklyn foodmakers (many of which feature tropical fruits) will give guests the strength to dance all night.
