WHAT: A Performance of the Jay Hoggard Quartet

WHEN/WHERE: Friday and Saturday, March 16 – 17, 9:00pm and 10:30pm, Sista’s Place, 456 Nostrand Avenue, Bklyn, NY

WHY GO: One of the world's leading vibraphonists, Jay Hoggard, brings his stellar quartet to Sistas' Place. The Quartet features James Weidman, piano; Santi Debriano, Bass; and Yoron Israel, drums. Trumpeter, Composer Ahmed Abdullah will join the ensemble in each set. Ahmed was one of the first bandleaders to hire Jay when he returned to New York as a young professional in 1977. "We spent many great musical nights performing at the late, great drummer Rashid Ali's venue Ali's Alley."

WHAT: The Brooklyn Philharmonic Presents “The Time is Always Right: A Century of Black Music in America”

WHEN/WHERE: Friday, March 17, 10:15am and 12:00pm, Brooklyn Center for Performing Arts at Brooklyn College, 2900 Campus Road

WHY GO: Works by Otis Redding, Sam Cooke, William Grant, Duke Ellington, Brooklyn High School of the Arts Choir; Avid Williams, conductor, Brooklyn Philharmonic; Wayne Du Maine, conductor

WHAT: 2012 Bullying and Young Gang Awareness Conference

WHEN/WHERE: Saturday, March 17, 9:00am, Grace Baptist Church of Christ, 223 New Jersey Avenue, Bklyn

WHY GO: The American College of Counselors Northeast Region and The National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women Club present a youth gang awareness conference.  Guest Speaker Kings County District Attorney Charles Hynes. Breakfast and lunch will be served. Spread the word to your local churches, schools and community centers

WHAT: Azucar Presents “Fuego! A Night of all-Female Music”

WHEN/WHERE: Saturday, March 17, 10:00pm, One Last Shag, 348 Franklin Avenue, Bklyn

WHY GO: Azucar is setting it on FIRE with a night of All Female Music! Resident DJ Shomi Noise & Guest DJ Mursi Layne will be spinning reggaeton, hip hop, cumbia, dance hall and much more from the best female vocalists & emcees!!! Stay hydrated with $4 drink specials all night! Come early and get free admission!

WHAT: Bowling and Cocktails at Chelsea Piers with First Lady Michelle Obama

WHEN/WHERE: Monday, March 19, beginning at 3:30pm – 7:30pm, Chelsea Piers, 23rd Street and the Hudson River

WHY GO: First Lady Michelle Obama will be hosting bowling and cocktails at Chelsea Piers. The event will be co-hosted by football players Victor Cruz from the New York Giants as well as Adewale Ogunleye. Food and open bar will be provided starting at 3:30 pm.
HOW MUCH: Non-bowling guests are asked to contribute $150; bowling guests are asked for $250; and a $5,000 contribution, includes bowling for five as well as a photo with the First Lady for up to five people:
