Get Out: Bushbaby Happy Hour, Hycide Magazine Launch Party and a Crown Heights Affair
Melt away some of that mid-winter blues this weekend with a bevy of fun activities taking place in and around Bed-Stuy!
1. Friday, January 25, from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., come enjoy Happy Hour at Bushbaby Bar & Grill, located at 1197 Fulton Street. Take advantage of $5.00 Apple Martinis, $5.00 Margaritas, $6.00 Mixed Drinks with house liquor, $3.00 Draft Beers. There’s no better place than Bushbaby Bar & Grill to unwind and hang with friends and coworkers after a long day at work. (great music +great food & drinks + great company = A Sweet Life)!
2. On Saturday, January 26, from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., The Universal Hip Hop Parade for Social Justice (UHHP) will hold a networking fundraiser event at Brooklyn Swirl, located at 445 Marcus Garvey Blvd in Bed-Stuy. Come on out and network with the UHHP family and friends, while listening to music and speeches on a variety of topics, including politics, economic, culture, security, Africa, technology and independent thought. Suggested donation of $10.
3. Come join Cumbe this Saturday January 26, from 7:30 p.m. - 1:00 a.m. for the dance studio’s one-year anniversary party. Feel free to bring the family: It's free for children under 5, and $5 for children ages 5-18 ($15 for adults). Plus, we'll have yummy snacks and drinks for sale... The night begins with three half-hour dance workshops led by artistic director Pat Hall (Afro-Caribbean), Yesenia Selier (Afro-Cuban), and Funmilayo Chesney (Congolese); and culminates in a dance jam to irresistible grooves by percussion powerhouse band, Heritage O.P.! Cumbe is located at 558 Fulton Street, off of Flatbush.

4. Come be a part of the HYCIDE Magazine Launch Party. Hycide, a groundbreaking urban photography and arts journal, announces the release of a special issue spotlighting artists who subvert conventional ideas about race, class, identity and pop culture. The issue #5 launch party will be held on Saturday, January 26, at Rush Arts Gallery, located at 526 W. 26th Street, Ste. 311, in Chelsea, NY, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
5. Crown Heights Affair will be playing a BAMcafé Live , located at the Peter Jay Sharpe Building, at BAM on Saturday, January 26, at 9:00 p.m. An emblem of 1970s disco-funk in the spirit of Earth, Wind & Fire and Kool & the Gang, Crown Heights Affair is a Brooklyn original with an endearing iconic sound. The group is best known for the hit singles “Dreaming A Dream,” “Every Beat of My Heart,” “Foxy Lady,” and “Dancin’,” and comes to BAMcafé Live to spread the Saturday night fever, Kings County style.
