Get Out: A Garden Bike Tour, Allen Houston and The Brooklyn Book Festival

Lots of fun, free things happening in and around the nabe this weekend. So get out!

WHEN/WHERE: Friday, September 21, 7:00 p.m., followed by an artist talk by Derrick Adams, BAM, Fishman Space, 321 Ashland Pl (between Lafayette Ave and Hanson Pl)

WHY GO: In the words of the show’s creator Derrick Adams: A lively, seriocomic performance, presented in the style of educational programs like Sesame Street, exploring the relationship of American popular culture, commerce, and the development of self-image. Sights and sounds: The Channel character (played by me) as host and pseudo-mystical shaman, plus colorful costumes, video projections, dance, a DJ set, music by Ramon Silva, and an interactive sculpture as the backdrop. Personal epiphany experienced after taking a second look at the familiar: Realizing the god-like role TV programs and commercials from my childhood has in making me. New Muppet I would introduce on Sesame Street: Professor Tap, inspired by Savion Glover. He'd wear academic regalia and spout brilliant quotes while he tapped.
