Get Out: A Crafts Fair, an Easter Egg Hunt and a Vintage Clothing Exchange!!

Warm it up y'all! The barometer is rising, and that can only mean one thing: It's time to get out!

WHEN/WHERE: Saturday, March 30, 10:00 a.m., Medgar Evers College, 1650 Bedford Avenue, Bklyn, NY

WHY GO: Writer, activist, educator, feminist and filmmaker Toni Cade Bambara, who died in 1995, will be the focus of this year’s National Black Writer’s Conference. In her keynote address, Farah Jasmine Griffin, professor of English and Comparative Literature and African-American Studies at Columbia University, will introduce attendees to the issues and themes in Bambara’s work and how they may be interpreted in view of current contemporary African-American literature today. Other presenters at the symposium include Malaika Adero, a personal friend of Ms. Bambara’s; Sonia Sanchez, the poet laureate of Philadelphia; and Eugene Redmond, the poet laureate of St. Louis.

WHAT:  14th Annual Central Brooklyn Jazz Festival

WHEN/WHERE: Saturday, March 30, 12:00 noon, Sugar Hill Disco & Restaurant, 609 Dekalb Ave, Bklyn, NY

WHY GO: Presented by the Central Brooklyn Jazz Consortium, this music series is New York City's longest continuously running grassroots festivals dedicated to jazz. More than 500 artists performing in nearly 50 events at venues in Long Island, Staten Island, and throughout Brooklyn. WHAT: 79th Precinct Easter Egg Festival

WHEN/WHERE: Saturday, March 30, 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., Von King Park at Lafayette and Marcy Avenues, Bklyn, NY

WHY GO: Outdoor Easter fun for children 1-12 years old

HOW MUCH: Free!

 

WHAT: Miss Master’s Closet Clothing Exchange Party

WHEN/WHERE: Sunday, March 31, from 1:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Miss Master’s Closet, 1070 Bedford Avenue, between Greene Ave and Clifton Pl, Bklyn, NY

WHY GO:  Here’s how it works:

  1. Gather up the things you never wear, the gifted garments that weren't quite right, or old items that you just don't need anymore and bring them to the party.
  2. Miss Master will review the value of your clothing in exchange for "Master Money" or depending on the item she may offer you some cash for an item or two.
  3. You will be free to shop with other clothing exchangers with your "Master Money".

WHAT: The Cre8tive Generations 1st Annual Craft Fair

WHEN/WHERE: Sunday, March 31, 4:00 p.m., Fashion Rock, 372 Tompkins Avenue, Bklyn, NY

WHY GO: Do you have a thing for handmade or vintage things? Tired of store bought duplicates? Come have a look at the wonderful handmade things that will be at the Cre8tive Generations Craft Fair. Various artisans and crafters will gather in one space to showcase their work for you to purchase if you find things you like, and trust me there will be something there for everyone. Since the fair will be held on Easter Sunday there will be plenty of Easter activities, such as egg hunts, egg dying, sack races, face painting etc. mainly for children but anyone's welcome to be apart of the festivities.
