Get Out: A Boys & Girls Weekend, Talib Kweli and a Native Tongues Party at Dekalb Market

WHAT: Boys and Girls All Grown Up: Alumni Weekend Fundraiser!

WHY GO: Years ago we graduated from The Pride and Joy of Bed-Stuy and now it’s time to reminisce about who we were then and how far we’ve come.  This bash is also for a bigger purpose - to raise money to help current students achieve their academic and professional goals. So, let’s meet and greet at the place it all started - 1700 Fulton Street, on Friday, September 28 at 6:00 pm. Alumni will be able to catch-up with old friends, their favorite teachers (current and retired) and get a firsthand look your friends. The bash will feature special guest  DJ Boof aka The ShutDown, the official DJ for the Wendy Williams Show.

WHAT: "To Begin The World Over Again," a theatrical performance
WHEN/WHERE: Thurs, Fri, Sat - Sept 27, 28, 29 & Oct 4, 5, 6, 2012 at 8:00 p.m., the Irondale Center, 85 South Oxford St., Bklyn, NY
WHY GO: An interactive live music and dance performance that eloquently explores the writings of *Thomas Paine* (/Common Sense, Rights of Man, Age of Reason/), and their relevancy in 21st century America. In the work Paine’s words are used as a mirror to reflect on America today and ask, /how is democracy packaged and promoted in America? What does it mean to be free in American? As America becomes more consumer driven, polarized and disenchanted, is America living up to its promise?/ The work features 6 fabulous
dancers and music by composer *Joseph Phillips*, performed live by the music ensemble *Numinous*

WHAT: CITY KINGS Native Tongues Party @ DEKALB MARKET
WHEN/WHERE: Friday, September 28, 5:00 p.m., Dekalb Market (Flatbush, between Dekalb and Willoughby avenues)
WHY GO: It's a noir music series + dj ceo presentation. An evening of conscious and GREAT music, courtesy of the NATIVE TONGUES. This City Kings’ event brings us back to the 90′s: Fresh beats and dope lyrics from A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Jungle Bros, Queen Latifah, Mos Def and their “Buddies.” Shopping. Eating. Dancing. Chillin’… The Perfect way to end the season at Dekalb Market. Expect a classic reggae set, some current hits (esp FADED; something by Beyonce; and, Murci) and some surprises. WHAT: The LIVE UNITED Bridge Walk & Festival
WHEN/WHERE: Saturday, September 29,  2012, Opening Ceremony: 9:45 a.m., Bridge Walk: 10 a.m., LIVE UNITED Festival: 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Bridge Walk kicks-off at Foley Square in downtown Manhattan.
Festival takes place in Cadman Plaza Park in downtown Brooklyn.
WHY GO: The LIVE UNITED Bridge Walk & Festival brings together thousands of individuals and teams from across the city to raise awareness of the urgent need to "bridge" critical gaps in educational achievement, income stability and access to healthy food for low-income New Yorkers. The 1.5 mile walk will begin in Foley Square, cross the Brooklyn Bridge and culminate in Cadman Park Plaza with a festival featuring live music, specialty food trucks, and fun activities for children and youth.  Also at the Festival, dozens of United Way’s partner nonprofits will be on hand to share information about the wide range of opportunities they offer for New Yorkers of all ages to get involved as volunteers and advocates. All registered walkers will receive a LIVE UNITED t-shirt.
