Get Out: A Book Swap-and-Sip, a Kwanzaa Fest and Porgy and Bess

WHY GO: Come out this weekend and support Bed Stuy businesses and a local jewelry designer  at two different locations. Pick up Holiday gifts or just something fabulous for yourself and celebrate Bed Stuy at the same time.

WHAT: Holiday Pop-Up Bazaar

WHEN/WHERE: Saturday, December 17, 12:00pm – 12:00am; Sunday, December 18, 12:00pm – 6:00pm, , 1103 Fulton Street, (between Classon Ave and Claver Place)

WHY GO: Local businesses and vendors of fashion, culture and cuisine will be in attendance all weekend helping to serve your holiday needs. Support small businesses, and support your community this holiday season. The Bazaar is guided by Ujamaa or Cooperative Economics, the fourth principle of Kwanzaa, which is to build and maintain our own stores, shops and other businesses, and to profit from them together.

WHAT: “Swap & Sip” A book swap while you imbibe

WHEN/WHERE: Saturday, December 17, 5:00pm – 9:00pm, , 348 Franklin Avenue

WHY GO: Many of you will be riding trains, planes, and buses soon to head home for the holidays. Join us and get a new book for your travels. HOW IT WORKS: Bring in five books and take someone else's in return; The idea is to trade around for those sought-after books you keep meaning to read OR share with others. DO bring recent bestsellers and notable books, hardcovers or buzzy reissues. DON'T bring the box of books you found down the street with a creepy "No Bedbugs" sign OR that stack of tween fiction you so happen to have laying around. Stop the hoarding and start the sharing!

WHAT: Porgy and Bess Fundraiser

WHEN/WHERE: Sunday, December 18, 3:00pm, , 1698 Bergen St, Brooklyn, NY,

WHY GO: Come into the city for the holidays and see Porgy and Bess starring Audra McDonald, David Alan Grier and Norm Lewis at the Richard Rodgers Theater with Weeksville Heritage Center. You will be fund raising for the Center and avoiding the hassle of booking yourself, plus you get to go in with a group.
