Why Go: In recognition of National Women’s History Month, NYS Senator Velmanette Montgomery, Martha Kamber (Executive Director of the YWCA of Brooklyn), and Lynn Nottage (Pulitzer Prize winning playwright) cordially invite members of the community to a reception to celebrate the newly renovated YWCA of Brooklyn and the rededication of the YWCA Community Art Gallery to JEANNETTE “RUBY” NOTTAGE. There will be a display of artwork from the Wally and Ruby Nottage Collection, and special musical and dramatic performances throughout the evening.

Shop for a DIVA @ Lewis Gallery

Where/When: Lewis Gallery, 411 Lewis Ave, Friday, March 25, Brooklyn, 6:00 pm–9:00 pm

Why Go: Lewis Gallery is closing its doors at the end of this month. To sell off its merchandise for a good cause, it will host a fundraising event on March 25, 2011, from 6-9pm. Fifty percent of all sales will go to DIVAS for Social Justice to support their summer programs for young girls in underserved communities of Brooklyn.

Cost: No admission, just shop!

Brownstone Jazz Presents Rome Neal

Where/When: Sankofa Aban Bed and Breakfast, 107 Macon St, Brooklyn, Friday, March 25, 2011, 8:00 pm – midnight

Why Go: The “Banana Pudding Man” joins “Fish Friday Friends,” as always Eric Lemon’s Open Mic Night. With music trio, Eric Lemon (bass), Dough Richardson (drums) and Rudie Wongozi (piano). Refreshments will be served.

Clothing Swap: Brooklyn Clothing Exchange Presents “Swap * Meet”

Where/When: Macon Library, 361 Lewis Ave, Brooklyn, Saturday, March 26, 11:30 am – 3:30 pm

Why Go: swap * meet is ongoing (bi-yearly) clothing swap social gathering that aims to lessen the amount of clothing/textiles that will end up in landfills. Through this form of recycling, participants will benefit by swapping their unwanted clothes (or other wearable accessories), meeting some cool folks while satisfying the desire for attaining something 'new'. Swappers will not acquire debt, guilt or stress from swapping.
