1. Sly Stone Documentary (Premiere) & Soul Summit Afterparty

Why Go:   This promises to be a night to remember as Act Now & Soul Summit Music pay tribute to a true Rock Star, the enigmatic Sly Stone of Sly & the Family Stone.
The evening kicks off with the NY/BK premiere showing of "Coming Back For More" 'The Search For Sly Stone' with a Q&A by director Willem Alkema. Please arrive early, as space is limited.

Why Go: ActNow Foundation In Conjunction with BAMcinematek & Council Member Letitia James brings you New Voices In Black Cinema Festival The New Voices in Black Cinema Festival is a multi-genre showcase of quality movies geared towards getting general and new audiences to appreciate Black independent film. Choosing excellence over spectacle and boldness over standard fare, this program pushes the gamut of showing how film explores Black society and provides exhibition to new voices and existing ones.

Price: The price of a movie ticket, $13

 

3.  Skylight Gallery: “Sex Crimes Against Black Girls

 Where/When: Bedford-Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation, 1368 Fulton St. ,718-636-6919, Opens Saturday, February 5th, 1:00 – 6:00 pm

Why Go: This provocative exhibit investigates the various levels of sexual exploitation and oppression that is suffered by young Black girls across the African Diaspora.

Price: Free and open to the public

 

4. Target “First Saturdays”

Where/When: The Brooklyn Museum, 200 Eastern Parkway, Saturday, February 5th, 5:00 pm – 11:00 pm

Why Go: It’s an all-ages dance party where the museum opens its doors to exhibits and arts programs for kids; The Fat Cat Big Band will play bebop and swing; they will show the film, “The Great Debaters;” There will be a discussion by writer Kalia Brooks on Lorna Simpson: Gathered. The evening finishes off with a jumpin’ dance party with DJ Stormin’ Norman on the 1’s and 2’s.

Price: Free and open to the public

 

5. Applebees for Superbowl XLV 

Where/When: Applebees, 1360 Fulton St. 718-943-8000, Sunday, February 6th, game time

Why Go: It’s Superbowl weekend! Watch the game from one of their four large flat-screens, order a beer and have a party. But mostly, go for their chicken wings which are huge and plentiful. They offer “Classic Wings,” and “Boneless Wings,” for $8.99 (10 pieces) and $14.99 (20 pieces). Both wing dishes come with a nice bevy of sauce choices, including honey bbq, sweet and spicy, southern bbq, classic buffalo and hot buffalo
