Free 6-Week Course To Drive Down Diabetes in Bed-Stuy

The program starts Wednesday, January 11; Registration is required

The Brooklyn Partnership to Drive Down Diabetes (BP3D) is giving Bed-Stuy residents a unique opportunity to jump-start their New Year’s resolutions with the introduction of "Six Weeks to Fitness," a free challenge to improve the community's health.

Six Weeks to Fitness will take place at the Bedford Stuyvesant Family Health Center located at 1413 Fulton Street (between Marcy and Tompkins Avenues), from 5:30pm - 7:00pm every Wednesday, beginning January 11.

The program is designed to increase the overall fitness level of participants by focusing on cardio-respiratory endurance, muscular strength, flexibility, body composition and nutrition. Participants must be Brooklyn residents, 18 years or older.

"Our fun, innovative and challenging course can include aspects of aerobics, kick-boxing, Pilates, Zumba and much more," said Stephen Beasley, BP3D's project coordinator. "The trainers will offer up a variation of techniques for people to get active!"

CAMBA has been running Diabetes Self-Management classes since 2008. BP3D, now in its second year, is funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The program brings the community Six Weeks to Fitness in partnership with the trainers of Body Sculpt of New York, beginning early 2011.
