Easier Refunds For Lost MetroCards

The MTA launched a new site this year that hopes to expedite MetroCard refund claims.

Lost your MetroCard? Getting a refund may become easier, as the MTA launched a new online claim form on it’s eFix web site, according to the New York Post.

Claims are accepted for 30-day unlimited MetroCards and seven-day Express Bus Plus MetroCards purchased with credit or debit cards at an MTA vending machine. The authority will refund part of your money, based on how many days were left on the card when it was lost.

Since October, the web site has seen 3,800 online claims of lost or stolen cards. Normally, the MTA sees about 30,000 claims per month.

To file a claim, go to efixmetrocard.mtanyct.info and click on “Balance Protection Claim.”

In other MTA news, the Post reports that the board is looking to raise fares on LIRR and Metro-North riders, with hikes of 8.19 percent to 9.31 percent.

Board members will vote next week on . The MTA would like to raise 7.5 percent from each division. If approved, the increases will go into effect in March.
