Defining Donna Summer

What was your favorite Donna Summer tune?

Donna Summer died on Thursday, May 17, 2012, from cancer at the age of 63.

If for even a second you ponder her impact, try to envision music of the Seventies without disco. You can’t, can you? That’s because Donna Summer arguably was one of the Disco era’s most important authors.

In fact, her beauty, her style, her come-hither voice, her hair… From the first Donna Summer song played on the radio, she worked so hard for the money, that she made you want to dim all the lights, like a bad girl who thought she was hot stuff feeling like she could twirl the night away until the last dance.

Her album covers were unforgettable, and her lyrics were fun and seductive. Everything Disco, she oozed—she was undeniable… Who else could be so convincing enough to give Barbara Streisand disco stripes (Summer-Streisand duet, “Enough is Enough”)?

Donna Summer was the queen of disco! She is a great voice that will be sorely missed. Rest in Peace Donna.
