Coffee and Crepes, at Your Service!

Mark Milord recently has become the proud new owner of a café and crèpe shop called Jolie, located at 1230 Bedford Avenue (between Hancock and Halsey streets).

Milord, a real estate investor, opened the restaurant unofficially this past Saturday, May 11, and is girding up for the official soft opening on Friday, May 31.

The café, approximately 750 square feet of space, serves hot and cold coffees and teas, fresh vegetable and fruit juices, paninis and their specialty—sweet, savory and gluten-free crèpes!

“There are four or five other crepe places around here, and I’m going to be nothing like them,” said the café’s chef, Vincent Visceglia.

“When Vince produces something, and I taste it, I love it,” added Milord. “I’m a foodie; I love to eat very good food.

“And I’m a healthy foodie. I do not do a lot of grease of saturated fats. I like fresh vegetables, fresh meats and fruits,” he said.

Milford’s said he’s excited to be opening in this Bedford Stuyvesant, because he thinks the neighborhood needs more options than Popeye’s, McDonald’s or fast foods.

“I have a lot of little kids around here that I’ve adopted as my little brother. And when I was building this place, I’d call them in to help me out, and that kept them off the streets,” said Milford.

“One of the kids that comes here, is severely overweight. And every time he comes around, he’s had something in his hand that’s just not good for him.

“So I made a deal with him: Every morning, he can come here and get a free vegetable juice. And then come back to eat for lunch. And then he could do what he wants for dinner,” said Milord. “I promised him that within a month, his body would start changing. And if that works, he then has to commit to [a diet change].”

Jolie seats about 20 and is WiFi-ready. The store hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. and on the weekends, from 7:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.
