CMJ Music Fest Brings Africa To Brooklyn

Society HAE Gathers African Artists and DJs for music showcase, just steps away from the Brooklyn Bridge

To celebrate the debut of the AFRICA21 Radio Show and the AFRIKA21 Mixtape Project, Society HAE (Harriet's Alter Ego) and BBOX Radio will close out the CMJ Music Marathon with a showcase of rising African artists, on Saturday, October 22 at BBOX Radio, at 5:00pm, in Dekalb Market (formerly Albee Square Mall), located at 138 Willoughby Street at the corner of Flatbush Avenue Extension in Brooklyn.

AFRIKA21, a weekly online radio show at BBOX Radio, introduces audiences to contemporary and eclectic mix of new music coming out of the continent.

The CMJ showcase will celebrate the emergence of this popular genre by showcasing some of the young music makers who are re-defining African music. Featured acts include Ethiopian reggae-dancehall artists Sheba, Afro Beat inspired Nigerian artist Khali Abdu and 2011 South African Music Award winner, singer, Nomsa Mazwai.

An "open-air" dance party will follow the showcase from 8:30pm - 11:00pm. Chief Boima and Lamin Fofana, both from Sierra Leone, along with Frei of the Ahficionados, will provide the soundtrack for the party.
