Brooklyn, You've Got Talent!

Three music acts out of Bed-Stuy will represent Brooklyn in the 4th Annual Battle of the Boroughs

On Friday, February 1, at 7:00 p.m., WNYC Radio and WQXR Radio will kick off its 4th Annual Battle of the Boroughs, a music competition to discover New York City's best emerging talent.

The battle features 64 music acts across five boroughs representing a variety of music genres, from country to gospel, experimental rock to a Latin string, from hip hop to soul funk jazz.

Friday's battle kicks off with the borough of Brooklyn. Fifteen artists will compete for the top spot, including three music acts that hail from Bedford-Stuyvesant:

Radamiz (Experimental Hip-Hop)
Rabbi Darkside (Hip-Hop, MC, Beatboxer)
Outernational (Future Rock)

The winners will be selected through votes from both the live studio audience and the online audience watching via live webcast. Voting will be available online at www.wnyc.org/thegreenespace and via mobile phone by texting vote codes to 69866. So tune in Bed-Stuy, and cast your vote!

WQXR host TERRANCE MCKNIGHT serves as emcee for this year's cross-borough battle series. Also there will be a bevy of award-winning and respected  musicians, singers, industry executives, and WNYC and WQXR staffers to provide commentary, including:

  • GERI ALLEN, Composer and jazz pianist
  • CHRIS BANNON, Vice President, Content Development and Production, WNYC
  • HAKIM BELL, Singer, songwriter and producer
  • NONA HENDRYX, Singer, songwriter, and producer
  • FRANCO IEMMELLO, Vice President of Rhythm Promotion, Capitol Records
  • WES JACKSON, Executive Director of The Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival
  • CHRISTIAN MCBRIDE, Bassist and composer
  • STEVE PAGEOT, Grammy Award-winning producer
  • MIKE RINZEL, Senior Director, Digital, WQXR
  • JOHN SCHAEFER, Host of WNYC’s Soundcheck and New Sounds
  • STEVE PAGEOT, Grammy Award-winning producer

The borough winners will go onto the final showdown, The Ultimate Battle, on Friday, June 21. And the Ultimate Battle Grand Prize winner will be awarded the opportunity to perform as a guest artist during Amateur Night at the at the iconic APOLLO THEATER.
