Teen Arrested, Charged in Shooting of 11-yr-old on Gates Ave

A teen suspect has been arrested in the shooting of an 11-year-old girl Friday night on Gates and Throop avenues.
 
Video cameras showed the suspect Kane Cooper, 17, was walking down Throop Avenue, rounding the corner at Gates Avenue when he began shooting at two males standing in front of 590 Gates Avenue.

Simultaneously, the victim was walking out of 600 Gates Avenue with her younger sister when she was struck in the neck by one of the bullets the suspect had fired.

The victim underwent surgery and currently is recovering at Columbia University Hospital.

The suspect, who is known to the 79th police precinct for prior offenses, was picked up by police on Madison Street. He was arrested and charged with attempted murder in the 2nd degree, assault, criminal use of a firearm and reckless endangerment.
