Bed-Stuy, Who's Your Doggy?

Bed-Stuy Pet Store Set For Grand Opening

Five-years after the grand opening of Who’s Your Doggy, on 97 Adelphi Street in Fort Greene, owner Tracy Klonowski is gearing up for the grand opening of a second location in Bed-Stuy, Monday, September 12.

Like its Fort Greene counterpart, Who’s Your Doggy Bed-Stuy, located at 301 Halsey Street, will offer the same premium pet supplies and grooming services that made the first location a local favorite.

Specializing in holistic pet care and organic foods, Who’s Your Doggy will be stocked with healthy and affordable brands like Evo, Orijen and Natural Balance.

“A lot of people believe that mainstream brands like Science Diet and Iams are healthy. But they're really not,” Ms. Klonowski explained. “Many are corn-based, which has little nutritional value.”

By offering healthier products, Ms. Klonowski hopes to encourage her costumers to improve their pet’s health, as many of the products sold at Who’s Your Doggy have no animal by-products, are not corn-based and are gluten-free.

“I want to educate people, because there are really healthy brands, at the same price, that are better for pets.”

Originally from Woodstock, New York, Ms. Klonowski moved to Brooklyn in 1988. After working in the restaurant industry for nearly twenty years, she began to investigate what Brooklyn neighborhoods needed pet stores.

In Fort Greene, she surveyed locals, asking where they bought their pet food. With limited access to pet stores, most were traveling to Manhattan.

“There was definitely a need for it,” she said. “It was a no-brainer.”

Since the Fort Greene location opened in 2006, three other pet shops have opened in the area. That's when Ms. Klonowski decided to look for a second location.

“A lot of my customers in Fort Greene moved out here (Bed-Stuy) and encouraged me to open another store,” said Ms. Klonowski. “Now I’m getting the same kind of buzz that I got when I opened up the first store. It’s really exciting.”
