Bed-Stuy Man Charges Mother's Neglect at Brookdale Hospital

The hospital has over 100 other lawsuits charging malpractice and neglect, says the Daily News.

Bed-Stuy resident Thomas Stephens is suing Brookdale University Hospital, charging that his grandmother died from gangrene stemming from untreated pressure ulcers on her feet, says the Daily News.

Nora Stephens, who died at 91, developed pressure ulcers on her skin during a 2008 stay at Brookdale, says the report, and over the next two months, the ulcers developed into a blood infection, then gangrene on both feet.

“I felt like it shouldn’t have happened like that,” Stephens, 54, told the Daily News.
