Back In The Day

Allow yourself to experience some good ole summer fun!

The sweltering heat in New York City is causing folks to move around slowly and duck into stores or eateries in order to keep cool. Some people are choosing to stay indoors with the air conditioner blasting an arctic flow into their homes.

I had the pleasure of participating in a water fight this past weekend with some little girls and it was the best thing that I’ve done in years. After getting over the huff of being the ‘adult’ that they chose to wet and giggle about, I let myself go and starting chasing them with a hose.

I felt free and childlike for those 2+ hours that I horsed around.

I reminded me of the days when we were able to play in the open fire hydrants in Bed-Stuy (circa 198?) and followed that up with  a game of stick ball or skelly in order to dry off. Those were the days of

  • No guilt
  • No  hang ups
  • No Worry
  • No Stress

The kids enjoyed themselves and they forced the adults in tow to do the same. It was a moment of reminiscing about ‘back in the day when I was young…’ Try it and let the kid in you experience some good ole summer fun!

Chris Rock said it best, African Americans are shown more 'love' for doing a 'bid' and getting outRead More of prison than to graduate school with a degree. When this 'hood mentality' starts to change, then you will see more than a trickle of AA passing advanced math courses.
