Announcement: Project Safe Surrender Starts Today

More than 60,000 Bed-Stuy residents currently have outstanding warrants; today and tomorrow, they can be vacated

There are over 300,000 open warrants across the five boroughs—67,000 in Bed Suy alone.

Beginning today, Friday, April 22, through Saturday, April 23, from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm, at Antioch Baptist Church, located at 828 Greene Avenue between Lewis and Stuyvesant Avenues, through a program called ,  a judge and court attorneys will be on hand to vacate (dismiss) all warrants that have resulted from summons for minor offenses.

These offenses may include trespassing, spitting, loitering, disorderly conduct, walking an unleashed dog, drinking alcohol in public, drinking alcohol underage, riding a bicycle on the sidewalk, making unreasonable noise, etc.

After participants have had their offenses vacated, down the street at Mt. Pigsah Baptist Church, located at 760 DeKalb on the corner of Tompkins, will be an array of organizations offering job services, training and resources.

Social workers, representatives from drug programs, GED programs, Workforce One, Medgar Evers College, even the DVM will be on-hand to help people get their licenses and clear their driver's records.

“We’re trying to get the word out, shape the mindset for a community to advocate for itself. And this is how it starts,” said Robert Cornegy, district leader (56th A.D.). “We’re bringing out the unified court system into the 'hood. There’ll be several judges, legal aid, court officers, the Black Bar Association, clerks, everything that you would see downtown will be in Antioch.

Today and tomorrow, anyone with outstanding warrants can have them dismissed. No questions asked.
