Announcement: Prison to Community Forum & Fair

A resource fair and panel discussion on how the formerly incarcerated can become productive members of society

The NAACP Brooklyn Branch, District Attorney Charles Hynes, 79th Precinct Council, The NYS Department of Corrections and Community Board 3 present THE PRISON TO COMMUNITY FORUM & FAIR on Thursday, May 19, 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm, at the Multi-Service Center, located at 1958 Fulton Street.

The partnership represents a collective quest to reduce recidivism by way of successful transition from prison to community.

It is essential that the community is part of the process.

This event will feature a presentation by Dr. Niaz Kasravi, Senior Manager Criminal Justice Program NAACP, on Misplaced Priorities: "Over Incarcerate, Under Educate."

Dr. Divine Pryor, will serve as moderator of a panel discussion on how the community can best assist formerly incarcerated young men and women with re-entering the community and becoming productive members of society, decreasing the rate of recidivism.

The panel will include Vanda Seward, Dept of Correction & Community Supervision, Office of Charles Hynes Kings County District Attorney, Commissioner Patricia Gatling Human Rights Commission.

Faith-based organizations, block and tenant associations and community leaders are invited to come out and support this effort.

All persons formally incarcerated and those that would like to obtain resources to assist in this area are also encouraged to attend.

Information booths will be available to provide practical skills and simple steps to maintain and improve the quality of life of someone formerly incarcerated.

Refreshments will be served.
