WHAT: Bedford YMCA’s 2nd Annual South African Festival and Fundraiser
WHEN/WHERE: Saturday, August 25, 3:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., , Gates Avenue between Bedford Avenue and Nostrand Avenue
WHY GO: This will be an opportunity for the Bedford-Stuyvesant community to experience a taste of Africa. The festival will feature fun, engaging and creative activities to connect us to our African neighbors, including food, music, games, arts and crafts and much more! This event is a fundraising effort by the Bedford-Stuyvesant YMCA in collaboration with the International YMCA benefiting the Teen Zone teen programs of the Cape Town YMCA in South Africa. Teen Zone programs provide after-care for teens from ages 13-18 at YMCA’s in South Africa. During this crucial development stage, the youth are provided with the tools they need to deal positively with risks that confront them – both immediate and future.

WHAT: The Afro-punk Festival
WHEN/WHERE: Saturday and Sunday, August 25 - 26, 12:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. at in Brooklyn.
WHY GO: For the past seven years, the Afro-Punk festival has put some of the liveliest and brightest African-American talent in rock/hip hop/punk music front-and-center, long before they hit the national stage. WHAT: Fundraiser brunch in support of the reelection of Robert Cornegy for District Leader
WHEN/WHERE: Sunday, August 26, 3:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m., The Cornegy Residence, 653 Putnam Ave, between Lewis and Stuyvesant avenues
WHY GO: Join Assemblyman Hakeem Jeffries at the Cornegy residence for food, fun and fundraising

WHAT: Second Annual Bed-Stuy Pride Day
WHEN/WHERE: Sunday, August 26, 12:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m., Von King Park, 670 Lafayette Avenue
WHY GO: Freedom Tent Skill shares: Community workshops on topics like Knowing Your Rights, Navigating gendered bathrooms, and erotic poetry. Performances by Fabulous Artists. Local Bed-Stuy and LGBT People of Color; Vendors; Wellness Space: Free and sliding scale wellness practitioners sharing hands-on practices like yoga, Reiki, and more!
