Beginning this Sunday and continuing tentatively through the next six Sundays (February 17) at Rustik Tavern, jazz musician Rome Neal will give an intimate, one-man performance of "Monk," a play and portrait of jazz pianist Thelonious Monk.
"This is my way of celebrating Thelonious Monk's 95th birthday and my 13th year of performing this Audelco Award winning play that has changed my life, has taken me all around this country -- even to Africa -- and has touched so many people on a profound level," said Neal.
Here's what people are saying about the play:
Acting was superb ... it was Monk -- Max Roach
A great journey through the genius of a great man I'm glad Rome shared it so beautifully with us. -- Ossie Davis, actor/writer/director
Neal brings the same creative intensity to Monk, as Jamie Foxx brought to his Oscar winning portrayal of Ray Charles -- Ron Scott, Jazz Critic
This, and every Sunday through February, enjoy dinner and theatre in a relaxed setting with great food, followed by an open mic! Written by Laurence Holder; Directed by Rome Neal and Laurence Holder; Composer/Arranger Bill Lee
