5 Things You Should Know This Week

Volunteer openings, private violin lessons and the last day for New York City public schools

1. Regents exams concluded last week, and Wednesday, June 26 will be the last day of for students attending New York City public schools.

2. On Monday, June 24, the New York City Council will be voting on a motion to discharge two Community Safety Act bills from the Council’s Public Safety Committee so that they can receive a vote by the full Council. The vote to bypass the committee is necessary because its chair blocked the legislation from moving through the Council’s democratic process.

3. This summer of 2013 The Noel Pointer Foundation is offering packed of 5 private lessons from July 1 - August 2, one class per week on Tuesday, Wednesday orThursday between 3:00pm and 5:00pm! Register this week right HERE!

4. With the 2013 market season kicking off in a few weeks join Hattie Carthan Community Market founder and director Yonnette Fleming for an overview of the Hattie Carthan community based food justice project and current volunteer openings. Come check it out on Monday, June 24, 2013, 6:00 p.m., at the Hattie Carthan Herban Farm, located at 49 Van Buren Street between Tompkins & Throop. 

5. On Wednesday, June 26, at 6:00 p.m., at the Brooklyn Public Library, photographer Randy Duchaine, in association with Created in Brooklyn, chats with individuals featured in his exhibition to discuss their creativity and diversity, and how 
they help make Brooklyn extraordinary.
