5 Things You Should Know This Week

Avery Sunshine, Book Club Meeting and Weekday Subway Changes

1. Changes to the J and M subway lines:

J—On Friday, July 5, from 9:45 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Jamaica Center-bound J trains skip Kosciuszko St, Gates Av, Halsey St, and Chauncey St.

M—Monday, July 1 and Tuesday, Jul 2, from 9:30 p.m. to 12 midnight, Metropolitan Av-bound M trains are rerouted via the F after 36 St, Queens to 47-50 Sts.

2. Brooklyn Movement Center will hold a new membership meeting this Tuesday, July 2, at 6:00 p.m., at the Macon Library, 361 Lewis Avenue at Macon St.  BMC membership is open to anyone interested in building the power of working class people of color living and working in Central Brooklyn. 3. On Wednesday, July 3, stop by the MetroTech Commons today for Avery Sunshine. A tremendous singer and keyboard player in the mold of Aretha Franklin, soul and gospel artist Avery Sunshine brings her message of healing to the BAM R&B Festival at MetroTech. A versatile, commanding performer, Sunshine has entertained at the 2008 Democratic National Convention, recorded with jazz musicians Christian McBride and Roy Ayers, sung on the soundtrack to the film The Fighting Temptations, and opened for B.B. King in London, always delivering her message of hope with fire and passion. MetroTech Commons, 1 p.m., free.

4. Alternate Side of the Street Parking will be suspended on Thursday, July 4. The regular schedule will resume on Friday, July 5.

5. Quincy Senior Residences will host its first meeting of the "Wednesday Afternoon Book Club" on July 3rd at 1:00 p.m., Quincy Senior Residences, 625 Quincy Street, Bklyn
