5 Things You Should Know This Week

A candidates forum, a Bed-Stuy pitch party and weekday changes to the M Train

1. On Monday, June 17, at 6:00 p.m., at Restoration Plaza, 1368 Fulton Street, the Bedford-Stuyvesant Real Estate Board will host a forum for candidates for the 36th District City Council seat, including Robert Cornegy, Jr., Kristen Foy, Akiel Taylor, Conrad Tillard and Robert Waterman.

2. With the 2013 market season kicking off in a few weeks The Hattie Carthan Community Farmers Market is looking for dedicated volunteers to lend their time and talents to our community based food justice project. Join project founder and director Yonnette Fleming on Monday, June 17, at 6:00 p.m. at the Hattie Carthan Community Garden (Marcy Ave bet Clifton and Lafayette) to learn about available volunteer opportunities this season and sign up for key positions.

M trains skip Central Av in both directions.
• Use the Knickerbocker Av M, Myrtle Av J, M, and Z or Kosciuszko St J station.
• Use the B54 bus for connections between Central Av and Knickerbocker Av, where M
service is available, Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs, where L and M service is available, or Myrtle Av, where J, M, and Zservice is available. (Z service operates weekday rush hours only.)

4. This Thursday, June 20 is the Be-Stuy Pitch Party for Women. 5. Mark your calendar: This Saturday, June 22, from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m., join concerned citizens in the community to discuss strategies for stopping violence in our community. The forum will take place at the Magnolia Tree Earth Center, located at 677 Lafayette Street (between Marcy and Tompkins Avenue). Panelists include Lorrie Ayers, educator; Kenneth Charles, LCSW; Jamila Codrington, Ph.D; Jonelle Knox, law professor; Tajh Restrep, youth counselor; and Danielle Thomas, LCSW, MPH.
