5 Things You Should Know This Week

Sonia Sanchez, Teen Tech Week and Community Board 3 Meets

1. Monday, March 4, at 7:00pm is the monthly meeting of Community Board 3. The community is welcomed to this public forum where committee updates will be announced, public hearings are shared and the public can also weigh in. CB3 meets the first Monday of each month at Restoration Plaza, 1368 Fulton Street, basement level.

2. The Brooklyn Public Library is encouraging children of all ages to play at the Library all this week! Beginning Sunday, March 4 to Saturday, March 10, BPL’s main branch will hold “Teen Tech Week,” where teens are encouraged to take advantage of digital literacy-focused programs and resources like e-books, movies, music, audiobooks and more. Throughout Teen Tech Week, neighborhood libraries will feature gaming for teens and tech help.  Also, on Wednesday, March 7, from 10:30am – 12:00pm, in the Dweck Center, the library will host the “Big Brooklyn Playdate,” at the Central Library, Dweck Center. Stop by the Big Brooklyn Playdate to enjoy fun games and activities for young children and encourage early literacy.

3. This Tuesday at the polls, known as “Super Tuesday,” will be important because it is when the greatest number of states hold primary elections to select delegates to national conventions at which the Republican candidate will be officially nominated. More delegates can be won on Super Tuesday than on any other single day of the primary calendar, and, accordingly, candidates seeking the presidency traditionally must do well on this day to secure their party's nomination.

5. On Thursday, March, at 7:30pm, at St. Teresa of Avila Church, 563 Sterling Pl. (at Classon), the residents of Crown Heights and Bedford-Stuyvesant invite the community to “Safe in This Place: A Franklin Avenue Theater and Dialogue Project.” Join local residents for a public performance and dialogue about what it means to be safe in this neighborhood. For 8 weeks, residents of Crown Heights, Brooklyn have used theater to engage in dialogue about what it means to be safe. They have raised questions about community, race, class, gentrification, power, police, diversity, and change. In this interactive public sharing of the project, the group members will perform pieces of theater and engage the audience in a continued dialogue about these questions. Free! Refreshments will be served. To RSVP, email safeinthisplace@gmail.com or call 347-763-9439.
