5 Things You Should Know This Week

Alternate side of street parking suspensions, a debate party in Bed-Stuy, Chuck Sdhumer as special guest of Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce meeting

1. Tune in to the Presidential debate on foreign policy on Monday, October 22. President Barack Obama will face off opponent Mitt Romney for the third time this season in a debate on foreign policy taking place at Lynn University in Boca Raton, Fla. Bob Schieffer, host of Face the Nation on CBS, will moderate. 9 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. The debate will be broadcast live on C-SPAN, ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC, as well as all cable news channels including CNN, Fox News and MSNBC, among others.

2. Come watch the final debate at Therapy Wine Bar in Bed-Stuy at a debate watch party on Monday, October 22, at 8:30 p.m.. Therapy Wine Bar is located at 364 Lewis Avenue.

3. Senator Charles E. Schumer will join the Brooklyn Chamber as a keynote speaker at a networking event and annual membership meeting on Wednesday, October 24, at Stage 6, Steiner Studios, 15 Washington Avenue (Brookln Navey Yard). The event is open to the public and includes a trade show and networking event at 3:00 - 5:00; Program and Dinner, 5:00 - 7:00. Chamber members will vote on the election of directors and board members for the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce and Brooklyn Alliance.  Cocktails and dinner will be served (kosher and vegetarian meals available upon request). Business attire, and the event is free.

4. Thursday, October 25, at 8:00 p.m., the Brooklyn Philharmonic opens the new season with free season preview called, "WNYC SOUNDCHECK LIVE!"at the World Financial Center Winter Garden, located at 220 Vesey Street (btw. West Street and North End Avenue). The kickoff features new commissions by young Brooklyn composers, including Kendall Williams, Christopher Cerrone, Matt Marks, Tim Fite and Ted Hearne performed by the Brooklyn Phil Chamber Players and Pan Sonatas Steel Orchestra, and hosted by WNYC’s John Schaefer.

5. Alternate side of the street parking is suspended on Friday, Oct. 26 for Idul-Adha, according to the NYCDOT.
