5 Things You Should Know This Week

The Central Brooklyn Jazz Festival, a whiskey night on Lewis Ave., and queer women of color celebrate!

1. In celebration of the grand opening of its new facility, the Bedford Stuyvesant Family Health Center (BSFHC) will host a press conference inside its new clinic on Monday, April 2, 2012, at 11 a.m., The Bedford Stuyvesant Family Health Center, 1456 Fulton Street, Brooklyn, NY

2. Starting last Friday, and continuing throughout the entire month of April is the 13th Annual Central Brooklyn Jazz Festival, presented by the Central Brooklyn Jazz Consortium at venues from Coney Island to Williamsburg in Brooklyn. This month long celebration is New York City's longest continually running grass roots festival dedicated to jazz. The programming presents internationally known and local musicians performing in clubs, community venues, colleges, faith based and cultural institutions throughout the borough. Information: 718.773.2252or info@cbjcjazz.org.This music series is New York City's longest continually running festival dedicated to jazz.  Festival 2012 offers 35 events over 22 days with more than 100 musicians performing in venues from Coney Island to Williamsburg.

3. Monday, at 8:00 p.m. is whiskey night at Therapy Wine Bar, located at 364 Lewis. Stop in to taste Makers Mark Bourbon Whiskey, Makers Mark 46 and Makers Mark Bourbon seasoned cigars! Who said Monday wasn't fun day?

4. Sunday, April 1, marked the start of a sales tax exemption on clothes and footwear under $110 in New York City. There was a sales tax exemption in New York a few years back, but the state rescinded it. Now it is back in affect, a savings of nearly 9 percent.
