5 Things You Should Know This Week

PBS Film festival, a senior pool party and a fundraiser to elect Walter Mosley to State Assembly

1. On behalf of the PBS Film Festival, come join Director Angela Tucker and author Imani Perry for a sneak preview screening and discussion of Season Two of Black Folk Don't. Plus: a performance by avant-electro-pop artist Honeychild Coleman. The event is on Monday, July 9, at 7:00 p.m. at LIU, Spike Lee Screening Room, 1 University Plaza .

2. Beginning this Tuesdays, July 10, from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m., The Bed-Stuy Aging Improvement District (AID) is excited to announce senior-only swim hours at the Kosciuszko Pool located at 670 Marcy Avenue between Dekalb Avenue and Kosciuszko Street for the summer months of July and August every Tuesday and Thursday. Music, refreshments, Aqua Zumba and a performance by the Bed-Stuy Splashers to celebrate!  FREE! Ages 62 and older. 3. Beginning Tuesdays, July 10 until September 13, from - 9:00am -  - 10:15am , The Quincy Senior Residences will be offering free Computer Classes for older adults (55 and older) at the Phyllis D. Smalls Hurd Technology Center.  This is a 10-week course designed to give a comprehensive course on basic computer skills and are provided by Older Adults Technology Services. The technology center is located at 625 Quincy Street (between Stuyvesant and Lewis Avenues).

4. Committee to Elect Walter Mosley will hold a fundraiser reception for the district leader in support of his candidacy/run for New York State Assembly, 57th District.  The event is Wednesday, July 11, from 6:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m., at Brownstone Jazz Sankofa Aban, 197 Macon Street.  Click HERE to Purchase Your Tickets Now!
