5 Things You Should Know This Week

Summer reading kick-off event, Discover Bed-Stuy, and community board 3 meets!

1. Monday, June 4, is the monthly meeting of Community Board 3, in the basement of Restoration Plaza, 1368 Fulton Street, at 7:00 p.m. All residents of Bed-Stuy are invited.

2. On Tuesday, June 5, the Bed-Stuy Campaign Against Hunger will hold a , from 11:00am-1:00pm. To RSVP, contact Lucy at (718) 773-3551 x115.

3. Also on Tuesday, June 5, at 5:00 p.m., Friends and Educators of Letitia James for Public Advocate invite you to join them for a fundraiser reception in support of NYC Councilmember Letitia James. Host Committee, 250 Dekalb Avenue: Joe Coello, Colvin W. Grannum, John Flateau, Roger Green, Brenda M. Greene, Richard Jones, George Leonard, Bashir Mchawi, Major Owens, Daryl Rock, April Silver, Danny Simmons, Esmeralda Simmons, Sheron Smith and Randy Weston. 4. Thursday, June 7 is the Brooklyn Public Library’s 8th Annual Summer Reading kick-off event, a FREE block party celebration for families on the plaza of the Central Library. The theme of this year's Summer Reading program is “Dream Big” and aims to keep the minds of kids and teens active while school is not in session by offering them book lists and activities throughout the summer. Live entertainment and activities for children and adults will occur throughout the day. For more information, go here.

5. The Sixth Annual “Discover Bed-Stuy” Resource and Safety Expo is this Thursday, June 7th, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m, at Boys and Girls High School. The annual event is a one- stop shopping for all your needs in Bed-Stuy, from pre-natal care to senior services. Participants get a chance to meet and talk with representatives from municipal agencies as well as local service groups and community organizations.
