5 Things You Should Know This Week

Thanksgiving planning, turkey giveaways and free Thanksgiving dinners for seniors

"5 Things You Should Know" will jump-start you into a productive week. Be the first to know about parking changes, important meetings, free events and the hottest get-togethers in and around Bed-Stuy:

1. Don’t forget that Thursday, November 24 is Thanksgiving. Therefore you need to plan today (Monday) to do the following:

  • If you are cooking, make a list and complete your shopping now, as essential foods and other ingredients may not be available closer to Thanksgiving
  • If you will have your dinner catered, you must call in your order now, before orders close
  • If you plan to go out to eat, make a reservation no later than today, if you want a seat at a table
  • If you plan to have wine with your dinner, pick up your favorite brands today, as stock will run out soon

  • Church Av-bound G trains skip 15 St-Prospect Park and Fort Hamilton Pkw

M Train:

  • NIGHTS—From 10 PM to 12 midnight, Mon and Tue, Nov 21 – 22, M trains rerouted to the F between 47-50 Sts and 36 St, Queens in both directions
  • DAYS—From 10 AM to 3 PM, Wed and Fri, Nov 23 and 25, Metropolitan Av-bound M trains run express from Marcy Av to Myrtle Av

J Train:

  • From 10 AM to 3 PM, Wed and Fri, Nov 23 and 25, Jamaica Center-bound J trains run express from Marcy Av to Myrtle Av

3. On Tuesday, November 22, beginning at 6:00pm, NYS Assembly Member Hakeem Jeffries, City Council Member Letitia James and District Leader Walter T. Mosley, III, with the Brooklyn Anti-Violence Coalition will hold a Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway at Brown Memorial Baptist Church Pantry, located at 484 Washington Ave. in Brooklyn, NY.

4. The 81st Precinct Thanksgiving Dinner/Luncheon for Seniors will be held on Tuesday, November 22, 12:00pm, at Gloria’s Church of God and Christ. They need volunteers to help cook, serve food and clean up. To volunteer, you may call 718-574-0433.

5. For the 25th consecutive year, Congressman Ed Towns will host a Thanksgiving Day Luncheon on Thursday, November 24, at Boys and Girls High School. Doors open at 11:00.Seniors are invited out; they will need to contact their senior center, and the congressman’s office will send out a van to come to pick them up. There will be door prizes, and the children from the high school come, help serve and interact with the seniors. For more information, call 718-272-1175.
