"5 Things You Should Know" will jump-start you into a productive week. Be the first to know about parking changes, important meetings, free events and the hottest get-togethers in and around Bed-Stuy:

1. Don’t forget: Vodou Bar is holding its FIRST costume Halloween Party today Monday October 31st, 6pm – until, 95 Halsey St. Brooklyn, NY (Corner of Nostrand Ave.). Drink specials, live DJ and costume contest!

2. Spend Halloween paying Tribute to the ANCESTORS with Shanto and Friends. Join Shanto and friends for an evening of Drums featuring the Ancestral Ngomas from Venda, South Africa. Libation, Jazz, poetry, dance, Kweh Kweh, Folksongs, storytelling, and Kreolic, it is a family event.  Bring the children and come dressed in white or dressed as an ancestor you like such as Harriet Tubman, Sojourner Truth, Martin Luther King, Cuffy, Desalines, Malcolm X, Marcus Garvey, African Janet, Yaa Asantewaa, Che Guevara, just to name a few. Kreolic is a form of Jazz that was created in Guyana and is heavily influenced by the African rhythms that are played in Guyana, especially in the Kumfah Church. The earliest pioneer in this music known is Clarinet and Pianist Rudolph Dunbar. 3. Alternate side parking rules will be suspended Tuesday, November 1

On Thursday, November 3, at 6:30pm, Bridge Street Development Corporation will hold a free seminar open to the public on how to save money on your energy bills.  Other items to be discussed include: Immediate steps taken to conserve heat in your home; Do-it-yourself repairs that will save you money on your energy bills; Learn about energy audit; Obtain information on Con Edison'a Green Program. 5. Long Island College Hospital will be giving out free Flu shots this Wednesday, beginning at 11:00am, by appointment only. LICH partners with Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz in an initiative to bring Brooklyn FREE availability to this year’s Flu Shot. LICH is located at 339 Hicks St, Brooklyn.
