1. This Monday, August 8 and next Monday, August 15, former tenor saxophonist for Gil Scott-Heron’s Midnight and Amnesia Express bands, Bilal Sunni Ali, will perform with pianist Mark Carey; bassist Taurus Matin; and percussionist Sidiki Lancaster at Jazzy Mondays. 2. On Tuesday, August 9, at 2:00pm, bring your children out to enjoy kite making with Kaziah at the Macon Branch of the Brooklyn Public Library, 361 Lewis Avenue.

3. On Wednesday, August 10, 2011, 6:00pm – 8:00pm, join the Macon/MacDonough /Stuyvesant /Lewis Block Association for cocktails and hors d’oeuvres to celebrate the Stuyvesant Heights Oral History Project at the Akwaaba Mansion, 347 MacDonough Street. Suggested donation is $10.

4. On Wednesday August 10 at 7:00pm, Vodou Bar is hosting a fundraiser for the Bakhita Girls Project (www.bakhitagirls.com).  The Bakhita Girls Project provides scholarships for young mothers and underprivileged girls to return to local secondary schools in Ifakara, Tanzania. The event will feature a live performance by The Chelsea Baratz Trio. Vodou Bar is located at 95 Halsey Street.

5. On Thursday, August 11, from 6:00pm – 11:00pm “Syfy Movies with a View” presents: Breakfast at Tiffany’s at Brooklyn Bridge Park. This outdoor movie scene is one of the best in the City. Come enjoy a comforting breeze, the company of friendly people, a classic movie and even the sounds of DJ April White at Pier 1 of Brooklyn Bridge Park. It’s free.
