1. A tentative agreement was reached last night on raising the debt ceiling. A crucial final vote on the plan will take place tonight. If the government fails to approve the compromise by this evening, the resulting government default could cause unprecedented national financial problems, from rising interest rates and a tanking stock market to a decline in the value of the dollar. So far, both Democratic and Republican leaders have agreed that any deal should include spending reductions in the long term. Stay tuned!

2. The New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC) will hold a public hearing for the proposed Stuyvesant Heights Historic District Expansion on Tuesday, August 2, at 2:00pm. The hearing will be held in the 9th Floor Conference Room at 1 Centre Street, Borough of Manhattan.

5. On Thursday, August 4, at noon, come out during lunch to enjoy Maxi Priest, one of the most popular reggae stars since Bob Marley. Jamaica-born singer Maxi Priest first graced American charts with his breezy covers of “Wild World” and “Some Guys Have All the Luck.” His crown jewel, however, was the R&B-leaning “Close to You,” an ideal showcase for Priest’s tenor voice—the perfect ending to another great summer of music at MetroTech Commons, located at Flatbush at Myrtle Avenue.
