5 Things You Should Know This Week

Water tax lien help night, Happy Hour with Patch and the Opening of Crown Heights Gold

1. If you have a water tax lien, the last day to pay is August 1. But do not despair! On Monday, July 25, from 5:00pm – 8:00pm, at the Bedford-Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation, 1368 Fulton Street, Bed-Stuy homeowners are invited to attend a “Water Tax Lien Help Night” for those listed on the tax or water/sewage liens sale list. At HELP NIGHT, homeowners may apply for exemptions (you may qualify to be automatically removed from the liens sale list), make payment arrangements and apply for discount programs. This event is brought to you by the "Know the Facts Don't Loose Your Home" Collective and the Office of Councilman Al Vann. Representatives from NYC Department of Finance and Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) also will be available to provide one-on-one assistance.

2. Jazzy Mondays presents The Last Poets tonight, July 25. Umar Bin Hassan, Abiodun Oyewole and Don Babatunde Eaton will perform two live sets, one at 7:15pm and one at 9:15 at For My Sweet, located at 1103 Fulton Street between Classon Avenue and Claver Place in Brooklyn. 3. with Patch on Wednesday, July 27, from 4:30pm–6:30pm!  Let's get to know each other over some great food and drink specials at Morton's Steakhouse, 339 Adams St, Brooklyn, NY. 4. “Nothing but NETworking” -- The Bed-Stuy Gateway Business Improvement District invites you to share wine and hors d’oeuvres with local businesses, residents, and community leaders. You may know about Bed-Stuy’s rich history, but have you met the folks who are making it now? You may know a few folks on your block, but have you met anyone around the block? At the BID’s Nothing but NETworking you can meet and share a toast to the neighborhood with the folks who make Bed-Stuy home. Thursday, July 28, 6:00pm – 8:00pm, Restoration Plaza’s Skylight Gallery.

5. Crown Heights Gold Opening Reception—This art exhibit commemorates the 20th anniversary of the Crown Heights Riot, and explores the transformation of the community since the harrowing incident. The multi-media exhibition will feature painting, drawing, photography, mixed media, video and sculpture created by roughly twenty New York-based visual artists. The Crown Heights Gold art exhibition will also honor the memory of Gavin Cato and Yankel Rosenbaum, two innocent victims who were killed due to incidents surrounding the riots. Thursday, July 28, 6:00pm – 8:00pm, Restoration Plaza’s Skylight Gallery.
