Maze Featuring Frankie Beverly, Vacation Bible School, Raising Chickens and More!

"5 Things You Should Know" will jump-start you into a productive week. Be the first to know about parking changes, important meetings, free events and the hottest get-togethers in and around Bed-Stuy:

On Monday, July 11, 2008, 7:30pm, Maze featuring Frankie Beverly is performing for free at Wingate Field, located on the southeast corner of Brooklyn Avenue and Rutland Road in Crown Heights. The entrances are on Brooklyn Avenue between Rutland Road and Winthrop Street. A limited amount of general seating is available on a first come, first served basis. The public is encouraged to bring their own chairs.

Beginning Monday, July 11, through Thursday, July 21, Cornerstone Baptist Church will begin its free, vacation bible school services from 8:30am - 12:30pm. All are welcome. Cornerstone Baptist Church is located at 574 Madison St, Brooklyn, NY. Registration begins July 5 -8; closing program July 22nd at 7:00pm. On Tuesday, July 12, from 6:00pm – 8:00pm, the Jane Bailey Community Garden will feature free live music in the garden: Dr. Mambo and the Experience Ensemble will entertain and delight people of all ages. Come join the Jane Bailey garden members and meet new neighbors at 327 Greene Avenue, between Franklin and Classon Avenues. This event is free. Bring your own chairs. Cuban mojitos, served with fresh mint from the garden will be sold!

On Wednesday, July 13, 6:00pm – 8:00pm, join the Greenbridge and NYC Compost Project in Brooklyn for a hands-on workshop on compost tea and learn how to grow longer, healthier food and use the surplus from your compost bin. The event will be held at The Vernon-& Throop Community Garden, located at 253 Throop Ave, Brooklyn, NY. This is a free event. Please rsvp at: mobrien@bbg.org

On Thursday, July 14, 5:30pm – 7:30pm, Green Thumb NYC will hold a City Chicken Institute Youth Workshop to teach young people and teens how to raise chickens in an urban environment. At the very least chicken farming is an extra bit of knowledge that will teach a child resourcefulness and farming.  The event will be held at 87-91 Schenectady Ave, Brooklyn, NY.
