5 Things You Should Know This Week

PACC's annual meeting, Caribbean Heritage Month celebration and Pharoahe Monch at Weeksville

"5 Things You Should Know" will jump-start you into a productive week. Be the first to know about parking changes, traffic changes, important meetings and the hottest events in Bed-Stuy:

1. On Monday, June 27th, Jazzy Mondays presents The Kim Clarke Trio who will perform two lives sets at 7:15pm and 9:15pm at “For My Sweet,” located at 1103 Fulton Street between Classon and Claver Place. The set will feature Kim Clarke on the bass, Benito Gonzalez on piano and George Gray on Drums. Why sit alone in your room? Come out, meet interesting people and get back into life!

2. On Tuesday, June 28, at 7:00pm the commencement ceremonies of the 2011 Boys & Girls High School graduation class of 2011 will feature esteemed and honored guest speaker Dennis Walcott, the chancellor of New York City public schools!

3. On Wednesday, June 29th, at 6:00pm please join Pratt Area Community Council at its 47th Annual Meeting, as it celebrates the year’s successes, elects a new board of directors, discusses its goals for the coming year and presents awards to community leaders. South Oxford Art Space, 138 South Oxford Street (near the Fulton-Greene-Hanson intersection) in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. PACC's 2011 Key Honoree: Mariadele Priest, PACC Board Chair, VP of Capital One Bank's Community Development and Community Resident.

4. On Thursday, June 30, at 5:30pm the Kings Country District Attorney’s Office of Charles Hynes, in conjunction with One Caribbean Radio present Caribbean Heritage Month celebration, honoring the great accomplishments of Caribbean Americans in Brooklyn. Local leaders, such as Dahved Levy of WBSL, Lowell Hawthorne, CEO of Golden Krust, Charles Smalls, county chief court clerk and others will be honored at Restoration Plaza, 1368 Fulton Street, “under the tent.” This is a free event. 5. On Saturday, July 2, 4:00 pm at Weeksville Heritage Society, celebrate Emancipation Day with Pharoahe Monch & Baloji. The Nigerian born, Brooklyn-based Baloji is an author who has received critical acclaim for his work Open City, a novel that has been described as "a meditation on history and culture, identity and solitude.” 4:00 pm discussion. Pharoahe Monch has earned a reputation as one of hip-hop's most gifted lyricists, described as “one of the most socially conscious cats in the game” (XXL), tackling real issues with a"full, flawless voice" (Spin). The Weeksville Garden, located at 1698 Bergen Street between Buffalo Avenue and Rochester Avenue, Brooklyn(MTA: 3, 4, A, C trains to Utica Avenue, Brooklyn). Gates open @ 4pm, music begins @ 6pm. Admission is free. Attendees are encouraged to bring a blanket
