Alternate side parking changes; a teen poetry slam; "Nothing But NETworking" at the Skylight Gallery and more this week in Bed-Stuy

"5 Things You Should Know" may turn your opinion of Mondays around, with information to jump-start you into a productive week. Be the first to know about parking changes, traffic changes, important meetings and the hottest events in Bed-Stuy:

1.      Alternate Side Parking regulations will be suspended Monday, April 25 – Tuesday, April 26, to observe the 7th and 8th days of Passover.

2.      Manhattan Bridge lane closings: There are four lanes closed from 6am to 10am Monday through Friday of this week, westbound (Manhattan-bound) of which two are on the north upper roadway (the left lane HOV) and two on the lower roadway; two lanes are maintained on the south upper roadway eastbound (Brooklyn bound). No trucks are permitted on the North Upper westbound roadway from 5am to 3pm Monday to Friday. Overnight Monday to Friday from 3pm to 9pm, there are four lanes eastbound and two lanes westbound.

3.      Official Opening of Art Exhibition "En Foco," Thursday, April 28, 6:00 pm, at the Skylight Gallery in Restoration Plaza, 1368 Fulton Street. En Foco’s New Works #14 features photographers who question the traditional role of documentary photography, by investigating its subjective, intimate and personal nature. Juror Andy Adams, editor and publisher of Flak Photo, selected photographers Rona Chang, Alex Leme, Susana Raab, Daniel Ramos and Sarah Sudhoff through a national call for submissions.

4.      On Wednesday, April 27, from 3:30 pm – 6:00 pm, join Brooklyn Borough President Markowitz, the Center Against Domestic Violence, Safe Horizon-Brooklyn and Steps to end Family Violence at Borough Hall Rotunda, 209 Joralemon Street, for "Denim Day Poetry Slam and Open Mic," featuring Brooklyn’s teen poets and lyricists. Denim Day is a citywide initiative dedicated to raising awareness about teen dating and sexual violence. Teens can sign up for open mic in advance by sending a copy of their work with contact info to xrose@brooklynbp.nyc.gov or a fax to (718) 802-3920.  A limited amount of slots will be available on Denim Day.

5.      You are invited to join the Bed-Stuy Gateway at “Nothing But NETworking,” and connect with businesses, residents and community leaders in Bed-Stuy over wine and hors d’oeuvres. You may know about Bed-Stuy’s rich history, but have you met the folks who are making it now? You may know a few folks on your block, but have you met anyone around the block? You may know about a shop or two on Nostrand or Tompkins, but how about the other strips like Lewis or Fulton? At Nothing But NETworking, you can meet and share a toast to the neighborhood with the folks who make Bed-Stuy home. Thursday, April, 28, 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm at the Skylight Gallery, 1668 Fulton Street, RSVP: Bernadette Mitchell bmitchell@restorationplaza.org.
