1. Planned Weekday/Weeknight MTA Services Changes:

The A Line: Beginning at 12:01am to 5:00am, Tue to Fri, Nov 29 – Dec 2 (Except Wed, Nov 30), the A service operates in two sections:
1. Between 207 St and 168 St, every 30 minutes.
2. Between 168 St and Lefferts Blvd/Far Rockaway.

2. On Tuesday, November 29, at 4:00pm, join Macon Library, located at 361 Lewis Avenue in the Mack-Harvin African American Heritage Center to celebrate the extraordinary legacy and 87th birthday of renowned politician, activist, educator, author and Bed-Stuy native Shirley Chisholm.

 Events include:

  • Hip-Hop Honors: Hear Emcees Pay Homage to "Miss C"—then Write Your Own Salute!, 4PM
  • Documentary Screening "Chisholm '72: Unbought & Unbossed," 5PM
  • Community Read-Aloud of Chisholm's Autobiography & Iconic Speeches, 6PM
  • Birthday Cake Tribute, 6:30PM

3. On Thursday, December 1, from 10:30 – 11:30, Mil's Trills is returning to Bed Stuy as part of the group’s Pop-up concert series. The show will pop-up at Studio 515 (515 Dekalb Ave, corner of Skillman St., Bklyn, NY. So get up close & personal with Amelia Robinson as she hosts a rotating cast of instruments at one of the most desirable children's music shows in town.   

4. Don’t’ forget that this Friday every Friday, from 6:00pm – 8:00pm, The Von King Cultural Center holds a “Teen Friday,” a place for teenagers to go on Fridays to meet and mingle, get homework help, volunteer, have fun and stay out of trouble. There will be movie nights, discussion sessions, open mic, music, laughter and fun. Von King Cultural Center is located at 670 Lafayette Avenue between Marcy and Tompkins Avenues.

5. On Saturday, December 3, from 1:00pm – 3:00pm, trees will be given away to NYC residents on a first-come, first-served basis (fyi, these are not Christmas Trees). Limited quantities of flowering and shade trees will be available. The trees are made available through the Coalition for the Improvement of Bedford Stuyvesant (CIBS) and Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration in partnership with MillionTreesNYC and the New York Restoration Project.
