5 Things You Should Know This Week

A community board meeting, a police precinct meeting and Women's History Month presentations

"5 Things You Should Know" may turn your opinion of Mondays around, with information to jump-start you into a productive week. Be the first to know about parking changes, traffic changes, important meetings, and the hottest events in Bed-Stuy. Afterall, there's no better way to arm oneself than with information:

1. City Hall: Today, March 7, at 12:30 pm, Councilmember Al Vann, along with other city council members, residents and fair housing advocacy groups will gather on the steps of City Hall to call for the passage of the recently introduced Responsible Banking Act (Intro. 485 – Vann, Recchia). If passed, the historic legislation would create a ranking system of banks seeking city deposits based on how responsive they are to the credit needs of New York City’s neighborhoods with the goal of making banks more locally accountable.

2. L.I.U.: Tonight, March 7, at 7:30 pm, L.I.U.’s Helping Hands SGA, Student Life and Leadership Development present, “HerStory.” The performance chronicles four female poets-by-night struggling with vanity, hardship and cultural confusion. From girlhood to the real world, this multicultural cast takes you on a journey through self-discover.

3. BSRC: Tonight, March 7, at 7:00 pm community board 3 will hold its monthly meeting in the basement community room at Bedford-Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation. All residents of Bed-Stuy are welcomed to attend.

 

4. The 81st Precinct Community Council meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 794 Monroe Street at 7:00 p.m. This Tuesday is the day. The Council encourages all Bed-Stuy residents to come out and let your voice be heard.

 

5. L.I.U.: On Wednesday, March 9, at 7:30 pm, in observance of Women’s History Month, L.I.U.’s Student Government Association will present, “The Male Ego.” The organization is inviting an audience of women, 18 and older to come experience a unique theatrical presentation and provocative discussion: Five men expose their inner thoughts behind the Freudian ideology used to explain men and their behavior in society.
