5 Things You Should Know This Week

Jazzy Mondays, Dance Training Registration, Alternate Side Parking Suspensions, and more.

"5 Things You Should Know" will jump-start you into a productive week. Be the first to know about parking changes, important meetings, free events and the hottest get-togethers in and around Bed-Stuy:

1. The music series "Jazzy Mondays" at "" will be featuring poet Sister Lisa Muhammad and singer Ras Chemash Lamed tonight in celebration of Kwanzaa. Doors open at 6 p.m. and live sets will begin at 7:15 p.m. and 9:15 p.m. "For My Sweet" is located at 1103 Fulton Street between Classon Avenue and Claver Place. Food and drinks will be available. 2. Balance Dance Theater (421 5th Avenue) is beginning their Winter Intensive on January 4, an eleven week dance course with choreographer and teacher Baba Obediah Wright. Classes meet every Wednesday from 6 - 8 p.m. Tuition is $500.00 for new students, and $450.00 for returning students if they pay in full by December 31. 3. The Brooklyn Partnership to Drive Down Diabetes (BP3D) is offering 6 weeks of fitness starting Wednesday, January 11 at 5:30 p.m. at the Bedford Stuyvesant Family Health Center (1413 Fulton Street between Marcy and Tompkins Avenues). The program focuses on cardio-respiratory endurance, muscular strength, flexibility, body composition, and nutrition. RSVP with Stephen Beasley at stephenb@camba.org or 718-282-2500, Ext. 63248.

4. Alternate side parking regulations will be suspended today, December 26, as well as Sunday, January 1, and Monday, January 2. Alternate side parking will be in effect every other day this week.

5. This Wednesday, will be hosting their weekly open rink at 110 Kosciuzko Street. From 8 p.m. - midnight, live DJs will serenade roller skaters on the dance floor at the Salvation Army building.
