5 Things You Should Know This Week

"5 Things You Should Know" will help take the edge off of your manic Monday by giving you information to jump-start you into a productive week. Be the first to know about parking changes, traffic changes important meetings and the hottest events in Bed-Stuy:

1.     Assemblyman Hakeem Jeffries (D-57th) will deliver his State of the District address Wednesday, January 26 at 6:30 p.m. at Pratt Institute.   This will be the assemblyman’s fourth State of the District address since taking office in 2007. This year’s speech will update the community on Project Reclaim, the initiative which seeks to transform market-rate condominiums that have failed into desperately needed affordable housing. The assemblyman will also talk about criminal justice reform and employment initiatives for district residents. Pratt Institute – Higgins Hall, 61 St. James Place (at Lafayette Ave).

2.     On January 26, 2011 at 6:00 pm, visit the Restoration Plaza for a book signing and reception for “Black Faces in White Places: 10 Game Changing Strategies to Achieve Success and Find Greatness.” The author Randal Pinkett, Ph.D. is a winner of Donald Trump’s reality TV show, “The Apprentice,” and co-founding chairman-CEO of BCT Partners, an IT and management consulting firm based in Newark. His co-author Jeffrey Robinson is assistant director of The Center for Urban Entrepreneurship & Economic Development at Rutgers Business School. 3.     On Thursday, January 27, 2011, 1:00pm to  2:00pm. Free Pet Eviction Seminar. If you have pets and you live in a New York City apartment this is the seminar for you! Ronald Languedoc, Esq., an expert on landlord-tenant law will explain how you can defend yourself in court against a Pet Eviction (Holdover). You will also learn about the Pet Laws in New York City and how they apply to different types of housing units (cooperatives, condominiums, NYCHA, rent-stabilized and small property housing units, etc.). 4.     On Friday, January 28, 10:00  – 11:00 am, Business Loan Informational Session, Join CAMBA for a short information session on how to apply for CAMBA’s small business loans up to $15,000. Loan requirements, the overall process, and timeframe from application to approval will be discussed in detail. Unlike traditional banks, CAMBA looks at more than just your credit score. Bring your questions and concerns. Resources for developing a solid business plan and repairing your credit will also be discussed.
