5 Things You Should Know This Week

MTA Alerts, Alternate Side Parking Suspended and Election Day

"5 Things You Should Know" will jump-start you into a productive week. Be the first to know about parking changes, important meetings, free events and the hottest get-togethers in and around Bed-Stuy:

1. MTA Weekday Alert: From 10:00am to 3:00pm, Wednesday, November 9, through Friday, November 11, Jamaica Center-bound J trains run express from Marcy Av to Myrtle Av. Also, from 11:00pm to 5:00am, Monday, November 7, through Friday, November 11, G service operates in two sections:

1. Between Court Sq and Bedford-Nostrand Avs, every 30 minutes.
2. Between Bedford-Nostrand Avs and Church Av.

2. The United States general elections of 2011 will be held on Tuesday, November 8. This will be an off-year election, where the only seats up for election in the United States Congress are special elections. There will also be four gubernatorial races, including a special election in West Virginia. There will also be state legislative elections in four states and judicial elections in three states; as well as numerous citizen initiatives, mayoral races, and a variety of other local offices on the ballot. There are no special elections scheduled for offices in New York.

3. Alternate side parking (street cleaning) regulations will be suspended Monday and Tuesday, November 7-8, in observance of Idul-Adha and for Election Day. All other regulations, including parking meters, remain in affect.

4. This Monday, November 7, is the monthly meeting of Community Board 3. For the month of November, the Community Board Meeting will take place at M.S. 117, 300 Willoughby Avenue (between Kent and Franklin Avenues).

5. Friday is Veterans Day, an annual United States holiday honoring military veterans. There will be no school for children attending public schools, citywide.
