5 Things You Should Know This Week

Kick off of Earth Day, the G Train at Smith Street back in business, and the Roots and Solange Knowles at BAM!

1. Today, Monday, April 22 is Earth Day. Try to do something positive for the environment, whether it be walk or ride a bike, rather than drive; pick up litter wherever you see it; or share valuable information, for example, pass along an article to your friends and family via email about how to better care for the environment!

2. Also today, the MTA’s F and G trains at Smith Street resume service. This is the first time the Smith Street station will be open since 2011.

3. The 79th Police Precinct will hold its monthly council meeting at the Job Corps Center, located at 585 Dekalb Avenue, at 7:00 p.m. Residents residing in that precinct are invited to come on out to catch an update on crime activity over the past month and also air concerns.

4. This week Crossing Brooklyn Ferry festival will return to BAM, from April 25 - 27. A partial list of 2013 performers has been announced and includes headliners The Roots (April 25), Solange (April 26) and TV on the Radio (April 27), as well as Brooklyn Youth Chorus, Julia Holter and Here We Go Magic. To see a full list of announced performers and their schedule, go here. Festival passes to all three days of Crossing Brooklyn Ferry are on sale now.

5. Alternate side of the street parking is in effect for this entire week. AND get ready: 60 degree temperatures and lots of sun are predicted (so far) for most of this week!
