Bedford Stuyvesant Rocks Greenest Block in Brooklyn Semi-Finals

Bedford-Stuyvesant residents express their love of community with flowers

Since Greenbridge announced the semi-finalists for Greenest Block in Brooklyn last Thursday, there has been a pep in my step and a smile on my face!

Of the 36 semi-finalists, 10 are from Bedford-Stuyvesant, my block included.

The large percentage of Bedford-Stuyvesant blocks participating in the completion, of 188, and making the semi-finals is a testament to residents’ love of the community, their sense of pride and their spirit of cooperation.

I could write paragraph after paragraph about all the hard work required to make the semi finals, but instead I suggest that everyone take some time to visit these blocks, because to use an old cliché “a picture is worth a thousand words."

The residents of these blocks have painted lush and beautiful landscapes. Their love, hard work and pride are evident in every window box, street planter, tree bed and garden.

The final round of judging for Greenest Block will take place at the end of July and the winner will be announced on August 3. To all my friends and neighbors in Bedford-Stuyvesant, I am cheering for you and hope to see one of our blocks holding the title of “Greenest Block in Brooklyn."
