VIDEO: Brooklyn Swirl Wants Bed-Stuy Residents to be Cancer-Free

Brooklyn Swirl hosts a day of free mammogram screenings and pampering for women over 40

In honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Jean Alerte, owner of Brooklyn Swirl, teamed up with the Brooklyn office of the Cancer Services Program on Tuesday to sponsor a mobile Breast Cancer Screening Van outside of the store.

The van administered free mammogram screenings for women, 40 years and older. In addition, Brooklyn Swirl offered 50 percent off all store purchases, as well as complimentary manicures and massages by Jason Grae of Healing Hands Mobile Spa.

Alerte also is co-owner of Julian Casimir and Co., a wholesale fine jewelry company in Manhattan. Julian Casimir and Co. teamed up with designer Sue Tsai to produce the LIFE bracelet, a one-of-a-kind collection of bracelets to benefit the American Cancer Society.

The 14K rose gold LIFE bracelets are part of the LUX fine diamond collection and are handmade in the United States. The LIFE bracelets are $150, and $20 of the sale of each bracelets goes to benefit ACS.
