Borough Restaurant: Brooklyn, Represent!

The old Bistro Lafayette becomes a new restaurant, Borough, featuring a little bit of Brooklyn and a lotta bit of déjà vu

Borough Restaurant and Bar, located on 338 Franklin Avenue between Greene and Lexington avenues, is an all-American diner with a Brooklyn attitude.

Is that a good thing, you ask? Well, that all depends on how you view Brooklyn. In this case, if you see the borough as a multicultural hub of all things flavorful, rustic and hearty, then Borough is representing Brooklyn to a "t."

The restaurant is located in the same venue as the old Bistro Lafayette, which, by most accounts, had grown a reputation for serving good food at affordable prices.

Borough, which opened in mid-May, already has developed a similar track record of good food at great prices. Basically, it's pretty much the same restaurant 2.0. The new and improved version features an expanded menu, fuller bar, more seating, artwork and a flat-screen television.

If you’re already familiar with Bistro Lafayette's culturally diverse menu, the menu at Borough also might seem like a bit of déjà vu: Starters include Calamari with spicy marinara sauce for $8.50; crab cakes with salad, $10; fresh catfish bites with tartar sauce, $8.

A line of burgers and sandwiches are served with fries or salad and include the “Borough Burger,” with goat cheese and caramelized onions, $9.25; fried or blackened catfish sandwiches, $8.50; and the grilled chicken sandwich with Chipotle mayo.

Entrees include grilled salmon, jerk chicken, lamb chops and fettuccine Alfredo, all affordably priced between $10 and $16. There’s a brunch bar on Saturdays and Sundays, from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. with all of the expected trappings of an American breakfast, including omelets, pancakes, French toast, between $6 and $11.

Also, the restaurant features daily lunch and dinner specials.

Borough delivers, with a $12 minimum, 718-230-4728. It’s opened Monday through Friday, from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. And Saturdays and Sundays, from 11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.
