Announcement: Daily Press to Open, Calls for Iconic Bed-Stuy Photos

Iconic Bed-Stuy photos wanted for new press French coffe shop opening on Franklin Ave.

Daily Press -- a French press coffee shop opening this Friday, April 29, at 505 Franklin Avenue, between Fulton and Hancock, is sending out a call for photo submissions.

Michael Zawacki, co-owner of Daily Press, will incorporate some of Bed-Stuy's rich history into his new venture.

The first thing people will notice when they enter the Daily Press are images of the neighborhood projected onto a wall. Zawacki is working with Wilhelmena Rhodes Kelly, the author of the book, "Bed-Stuy Images of America," and Brian Merliss, the creator of Brooklynpix.com, to gather pictures of the neighborhood.

Those, in addition to ones submitted by patrons of Daily Press, will be shown inside of the shop.

Zawacki says of the idea, "Many people don't know the history of the neighborhood, and it's changing a lot. Hopefully we can do something to help preserve the history."

Zawacki is inviting you to send in for consideration your old photos, new photos, classic grafitti art, beautiful cityscapes that portray iconic Bed-Stuy or a special Bed-Stuy moment that you'd like to share. Send your digital submission to: michael.zawacki@gmail.com.
